About Dr. Matthew Levinson

Dr. Matthew Levinson is a board-certified veterinary dermatologist. His passion for veterinary dermatology began while studying economics and finance as an undergraduate. At that time, Dr. Levinson adopted an English bulldog who happened to come with a lot of skin issues. His determination in finding effective treatments to help ease his dog’s symptoms sparked his interest in veterinary medicine and the Dermatology specialty. After completing his Bachelor of Arts in Economics at Indiana University, Dr. Levinson went on to complete his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at Oklahoma State University. He then completed a small animal rotating internship at Blue Pearl in Northfield, IL, followed by a 3-year residency at Animal Dermatology Clinic in Tustin, CA.

Dr. Levinson has authored several publications involving repurposing drugs for their effectiveness against methicillin-resistant staph infections, multimodal therapies for papillomavirus, and skin disease associated with functional thyroid cancer in a dog.

His expertise includes chronic ear disease and ear mass removals, autoimmune diseases, endocrinopathies (Cushing’s disease, Hypothyroidism), recurrent skin infections, and managing allergic skin disease.

Dr. Levinson tries to stay on the cutting edge of veterinary medicine by offering the latest treatment options which include growth removals using cryotherapy or carbon dioxide (CO2) laser which can be less invasive and provide smoother/quicker recovery. Using a video-otoscopy (high-definition resolution scope), he can offer a variety of less invasive ear procedures which includes deep ear cleanings and ear growth removals. When it comes to allergen-specific immunotherapy treatments, Dr. Levinson was one of the first veterinary dermatologists to offer intralymphatic immunotherapy (ILIT) in cats and offers this type of therapy in dogs as well.

Along with his passion for helping his furry patients, Dr. Levinson also understands the importance of helping their human counterparts. Having a pet with skin and/or ear disease can be a very frustrating and stressful situation. Every case is different, and he works tirelessly to find a plan/solution that will create the best quality of life for all involved.

When Dr. Levinson is not helping his pet owners find the best solutions for their pet’s skin and ear conditions, he enjoys spending time with his family attending a Cubs game at Wrigley Field, cooking, traveling, and being with his dog, Willow.
